About the position

The Shelter Residential Specialist is responsible for providing support and supervision to youth in a residential shelter environment. This role involves engaging with youth, conducting admissions and discharges, and ensuring a safe and therapeutic atmosphere. The specialist will also provide case management and assist in the daily operations of the shelter, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the youth.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coaches, and mentors youth during all activities on the unit and while on outings.
  • Monitors the cleaning of rooms and voluntary chores, while building rapport and engaging youth in programming and life skills.
  • Provides structure, discipline, and security by engaging with and monitoring youth at all times to ensure their safety and rights are protected.
  • Provides positive interaction with youth and demonstrates appropriate boundaries and practices.
  • Collaborates with/develops a multidisciplinary team to meet the goals of the youth and shelter programming.
  • Completes all admission and discharge paperwork, security checks, and provides therapeutic interventions for youth and their families.
  • Ensures that clinical records are complete, demonstrate medical necessity, and comply with program policy and procedure.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the unit for that shift.
  • Provides effective and efficient case management and/or outreach to youth who may need assistance as well as to public and private agencies who work with youth and families.
  • Participates in regular training to advance knowledge, build skills, and flourish professionally.
  • Attends all staff meetings unless otherwise excused by supervisor(s).
  • Arrives to work before or at the scheduled shift time.
  • Seeks coverage for self when unable to make it into work or wishes to take a day off (excluding extended day vacations).
  • Completes all paperwork related to Connecting Kids to Meals.
  • Enters all pertinent unit activity into the Shift Activity Log.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma or GED plus 4 years of verifiable experience working with youth and families from diverse backgrounds and service providers who assist youth and families.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Must pass a criminal background check, 5 panel drug test, TB test, be eligible to drive a company vehicle, and have a valid driver's license.
