About the position

Oaklands Farm is seeking a dedicated Seasonal Shepherd to manage sheep milking and support various farm-related tasks during the milking season from May 1 to September 30. This role is crucial for ensuring the health and well-being of the sheep while contributing to the farm's sustainable practices and future product lines, including sheep's milk cheeses.

Responsibilities

• Manage the milking process, ensuring hygiene and comfort for the animals.
• Transport milk to the offsite creamery, Monday through Friday.
• Monitor the health and well-being of sheep and other livestock, reporting any concerns promptly.
• Provide feed and water to animals as per established schedules and procedures.
• Oversee the rotation of livestock through pastures to promote healthy grazing and land sustainability.
• Perform general farm maintenance tasks such as cleaning barns, clearing fence lines, and maintaining equipment.

Requirements

• Prior experience in animal husbandry or dairy operations is welcomed but not mandatory.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and working in various weather conditions.
• Strong commitment to animal welfare and sustainable farming practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively with farm staff and communicate effectively.
