About the position

The Sheriff Deputy III position involves performing a comprehensive range of police work aimed at protecting life and property through law enforcement. This role includes patrolling county areas, responding to calls, conducting investigations, and providing assistance in emergency situations. The deputy is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with the public and colleagues, and to uphold the laws and regulations established by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols County areas and roads to respond to calls and enforce traffic safety.
  • Conducts roving and targeted patrols to prevent entry crimes, trespass, vandalism, and property damage.
  • Carries out field interviews, interrogations, and arrests based on reasonable suspicion and probable cause.
  • Conducts criminal surveillance and performs preliminary and follow-up investigations of crimes.
  • Assists investigators at major crime scenes and aids citizens in need of assistance.
  • Provides traffic control and accident investigation as needed.
  • Participates in sobriety checkpoints and responds to emergency situations when assigned.
  • Appears in court to give testimony and serves civil and criminal paperwork.
  • Transports prisoners as required, including extraditions.
  • Prepares and submits timely, accurate, and complete paperwork as required.
  • Maintains positive interaction with the public and colleagues.
  • Provides security for courts and enforces Federal and State laws and County ordinances.
  • Books suspects into jail and processes criminal complaints and related paperwork.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner and follows established officer safety practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a certified Law Enforcement Officer.
  • Valid/current certification as a Law Enforcement Officer within the United States.
  • Successful completion of County screening and hiring procedures.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Benefits

  • Union eligibility after completion of one (1) year probationary period.
  • Budgeted salary of $41.25 hourly, commensurate with related education and experience.
