About the position

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking IT professional to join their team as a Sheriff's Applications and Database Specialist. This full-time position is integral to the operations of a full-service law enforcement agency, focusing on the development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of applications and databases. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that the technology systems used by the Sheriff's Office are efficient, secure, and effective in supporting law enforcement activities. In this role, the specialist will be responsible for SQL database management, user and group administration, and providing application support and development. The position also involves managing software updates and patches, as well as troubleshooting and repairing both software and hardware issues. A significant aspect of the job includes developing reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Crystal Reports, which are essential for assisting crime analysts, administrative staff, and other end-users in their daily operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT, particularly in SQL Server database administration and software development. They will work closely with other IT personnel to maintain servers that support various applications used by the FCSO staff, including SQL, Exchange, Windows, and SAP Crystal. Additionally, the specialist will support the electronic document imaging system and collaborate with County Management Information Systems (MIS) staff and outside vendors as necessary. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to providing high-quality support to all members of the FCSO IT team.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, configures, modifies, maintains and troubleshoots FCSO systems software
  • Serves as security administrator for law enforcement systems
  • Compiles data and develops complex statistical reports used by various department personnel
  • Works with other IT personnel to maintain servers for use by the FCSO staff including SQL, Exchange, Windows and SAP Crystal
  • Supports the electronic document imaging system as needed
  • Develops, implements and supports software applications that benefit agency personnel
  • Provides assistance to all members of the FCSO IT team as needed
  • Works closely with County MIS staff and outside vendors as needed
  • Performs other related work as required

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in computer science or related academic field
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience working with SQL Server database administration and configuration
  • Experience in software development in .NET for desktop/mobile devices
  • Experience in complex report generation in SAP Crystal and Microsoft SSRS
  • Knowledge of Central Square systems is a plus
