About the position

The Sheriff's Office Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled maintenance and repair tasks for the Yuma County Sheriff's Office facilities and associated equipment. This role involves a variety of tasks including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC work, ensuring that the facilities are operable, efficient, and safe for personnel and inmates.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks including plumbing, mechanical, masonry, and basic electrical and HVAC work.
  • Conduct basic repairs on Detention closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras, intercom systems, and electrical security doors.
  • Identify and organize materials, supplies, and equipment needed for assigned projects.
  • Work with special project or construction teams as assigned.
  • Inspect buildings and structures to determine malfunctions and needed repairs, making notes and recommendations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on the interior and exterior of facilities and equipment.
  • Conduct minor plumbing maintenance and repairs, such as fixing leaks and unclogging drains.
  • Perform minor mechanical, carpentry, and masonry work, including hanging doors and repairing sidewalks.
  • Conduct minor electrical maintenance, including replacing fixtures and bulbs.
  • Assist in performing minor HVAC work, such as adjusting thermostats and changing filters.
  • Receive calls for troubleshooting on building and mechanical systems and prioritize work orders.
  • Maintain records and logs of services performed and enter data into the computer system.
  • Clean, maintain, and service equipment and tools used during work assignments.
  • Build, repair, and modify office furniture using carpentry techniques.
  • Maintain situational awareness in the Detention Facility and utilize proper safety precautions.
  • Respond to on-call work orders on a rotational basis and maintain confidentiality of work-related issues.

Requirements

  • Experience in skilled maintenance and repair work in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools effectively and safely.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures in maintenance work.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage materials and work orders.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in a correctional facility or similar environment.
  • Certification in HVAC or electrical systems.
