About the position

The Sealaska Heritage Store is seeking an Inventory Specialist/Seasonal Assistant Manager who will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of the store. This position is centered around establishing and maintaining a high level of customer service, which is essential for the success of the retail environment. The Inventory Specialist will be responsible for managing data within the retail sales platform application, analyzing business trends, and maximizing sales and profitability. This role also involves mentoring staff, controlling store stock, managing expenses and shortages, and overseeing all aspects of merchandising and inventory control. In this position, the Inventory Specialist will implement and uphold customer service standards while interacting with clients both on-site and remotely. This includes handling all forms of communication, whether on the sales floor, through phone calls, or via emails. The role requires meticulous record-keeping of sales, preparing inventory of stock, and ordering merchandise as needed. The Inventory Specialist will also be responsible for updating and maintaining stock data management processes within the Store's Retail Platform, ensuring that all information is accurate and up-to-date. Mentoring and developing employees is a key responsibility, as the Inventory Specialist will communicate regularly with all staff members. This includes training staff on the cultural significance of Alaska Native arts merchandise, which is vital for promoting the store's unique offerings. The Inventory Specialist will maintain a strong awareness of product knowledge and current promotions to effectively assist customers and drive sales. Additionally, the Inventory Specialist will plan and assign daily goals, tasks, and assignments to staff, monitoring their progress and ensuring completion. They will assist in monitoring sales performance and adjusting strategies as necessary to meet sales targets. The role also involves creating promotional campaigns to maximize sales and maintaining merchandising standards, including display presentation and signage. Finally, the Inventory Specialist will oversee inventory levels and, when applicable, assist in the ordering and purchasing of art and merchandise.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain customer service standards in dealing with clients both on-site and remotely.
  • Keep record of sales, prepare inventory of stock and order merchandise.
  • Update and maintain all aspects of stock data management and processing in the Store's Retail Platform.
  • Mentor, develop and communicate with all employees.
  • Consistently assist and train Staff in cultural significance of Alaska Native arts merchandise.
  • Maintain awareness of product knowledge and promotions.
  • Plan and assign daily goals, tasks, and assignments. Monitor and follow up through completion.
  • Assist in monitoring sales performance and adjusting strategies.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional campaigns to maximize sales.
  • Maintain all merchandising standards, display presentation, and signage.
  • Maintaining all inventory levels.
  • When applicable, assist in orders and buying of art and merchandise.

Requirements
