About the position

The Shift Lead Veterinary Technician at Pet Specialists of Austin (PSA) plays a crucial role in providing veterinary nursing duties while also leading and training a team of veterinary technicians and assistants. This position requires strong emergency veterinary skills, excellent communication, and leadership abilities to ensure efficient patient care and uphold the hospital's core values. The Shift Lead is responsible for managing shift operations, training staff, and maintaining high standards of care in a supportive and community-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide all veterinary nursing duties in the hospital.
• Direct and train veterinary technicians and assistants in various areas including client service, clinical pathology, and emergency medicine.
• Manage time effectively and delegate tasks to team members.
• Conduct team huddles to prioritize tasks and improve workflow.
• Communicate effectively with the Nurse Manager, Medical Director, and leadership team.
• Participate in regular lead check-ins to address concerns and set goals.
• Enforce policies and protocols, ensuring team accountability.
• Perform technical duties including triage, patient stabilization, and administering treatments.
• Oversee laboratory and radiology procedures, ensuring safety and compliance.
• Lead training sessions and develop individualized training plans for team members.

Requirements

• 5+ years experience as a Veterinary Technician in Specialty and Emergency or General Practice preferred.
• Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology preferred.
• Licensure (CVT, LVT, RVT) preferred.
• Prior supervisory/management experience preferred.
• Flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
