About the position

The Shift Leader at Smashburger plays a crucial role in managing both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH) employees to ensure a positive work environment and excellent guest experiences. This position involves overseeing daily operations, training staff, and maintaining high standards of food safety and service. The Shift Leader is responsible for promoting teamwork and supporting the restaurant's goals while providing opportunities for employee growth and development.

Responsibilities

• Manage the performance of both FOH & BOH employees
• Promote a fun and positive work environment
• Manage the effectiveness of people-focused processes and systems
• Provide initial and ongoing training to all employees within the unit
• Reward and recognize employee performance that exceeds company standards
• Manage daily operational checklists including line checks and uniform standards
• Manage guest experience metrics (NPS and OSAT)
• Ensure all food safety standards are followed and in compliance with local health departments
• Exemplify guest service on each shift and communicate service standards to employees
• Manage the successful onboarding and training for all new employees
• Follow COGS management procedures for food ordering and inventory
• Follow company cash policies to minimize losses through theft or shortages
• Manage daily labor

Requirements

• Previous Shift Leader Experience
• Completion of train the trainer course within 90 days
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to follow Smashburger uniform standards
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• People management skills to effectively lead restaurant teams
• Excellent attention to detail
• Proven time management, consistency, and organizational skills
• Highly motivated, self-directed, and results-driven
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift boxes up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work in high temperatures
