About the position

The Shift Supervisor at the West Phoenix Power Plant is responsible for providing technical leadership to a team of union-skilled craft employees, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the plant. This role involves overseeing operations during non-routine hours, acting as the Incident Commander, and maintaining compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The supervisor will lead efforts to optimize power generation and manage crisis situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure continuous, reliable, and efficient power generation by directing operations teams in the safe operation and maintenance of the plant and DOT-regulated pipelines.
  • Act as Incident Commander when needed, coordinating incident response and decision-making to ensure safety and quick resolution.
  • Effectively lead a team of union personnel, fostering a collaborative and productive environment while respecting union protocols.
  • Provide technical guidance, address operational challenges, and troubleshoot issues to maintain safe, efficient plant operation.
  • Uphold safety standards and regulatory compliance, prioritizing operational safety and implementing best practices for risk management.
  • Hold responsibility over the operation of DOT-regulated pipelines, recognizing abnormal operating conditions and directing operations personnel accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Five (5) years power plant experience in operations and/or engineering positions.
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of plant processes and operating procedures for boilers, turbines, generators, and related equipment in a power plant.

Nice-to-haves

  • Control Operator experience.
  • Eligible to be DOT Certified.
  • Personal Computer proficiency including working knowledge of Maximo or similar computerized work management program, Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience or knowledge of business practices and processes in power plant generation business including budget development, labor relations, and environmental and safety regulations.
