About the position
The Shipfitter position at the Department of the Navy involves working in the Shipfitter Shop within the Hull Division, focusing on the construction and repair of vessels. The role requires expertise in laying out, fabricating, assembling, and installing metal structural parts of submarines, ensuring precision and collaboration with other trades. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Kings Bay, GA, with a salary range of $27.60 to $32.21 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Sight, plot, and mark reference points and lines on building dock or shipway to maintain alignment of vessel during construction or repair.
- Establish center lines, water and base lines, frame lines, degree lines, and other reference points aboard ships.
- Build keel blocking, cradles, shoring, cribbing, and other structures to support ships in drydock.
- Construct staging for ship work and build temporary wood supports, containments, and shorings for vessels.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty.
- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in working with blueprints and templates.
- Ability to operate shop machinery to roll, bend, cut, and shape heavy metal structural shapes.
