About the position

ABF Freight, a leading LTL carrier and part of ArcBest, is seeking a dedicated Shipment Research Validation Analyst to join our team in Portland, OR. This full-time position is essential for ensuring the accuracy of freight billing and compliance with tariff regulations. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting shipments, verifying freight bill descriptions, and ensuring that the correct published tariff rates are applied to customer freight bills. This role is crucial in maintaining the integrity of our billing processes and ensuring customer satisfaction through accurate and timely service. As a Shipment Research Validation Analyst, you will manage the Weighing and Research reweigh program, which includes training forklift operators and maintaining the necessary equipment to achieve high reweigh rates. You will work closely with the Sales department and customers to ensure that commodity descriptions on Bills of Lading are accurate and compliant with ABF's tariff rules and pricing policies. This position requires a proactive approach to promoting the reweigh program at local distribution centers and service centers, ensuring that reweigh frequencies meet or exceed the goals set by management. In this role, you will need to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with team members to achieve departmental goals. The position may also involve other duties and projects as assigned, making adaptability and a willingness to learn essential traits for success.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect shipments and provide complete and accurate documentation for proper corrections to freight bills.
  • Check and maintain all W&R equipment.
  • Train and educate service center personnel concerning proper reweigh procedures.
  • Communicate with Sales department and customers concerning the correct commodity descriptions for Bills of Lading.
  • Promote the W&R reweigh program at the local distribution center and assigned end of line service centers, ensuring reweigh frequencies meet or exceed goals set by W&R Management.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
  • Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of ABF tariff rules and applications, as well as ABF Pricing policies and procedures preferred.
  • Understanding of the NMFC Classifications and their rules and applications.
  • Understanding of both Service Center and Linehaul operations.
  • Understanding of scale operations (including wireless segment) and use of PDAs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in logistics or transportation industry.
  • Familiarity with freight billing processes.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles.
