About the position

The Shipping/Quality Manager is responsible for overseeing the shipping and quality functions at the LaPorte, Texas Plant. This role ensures that finished products are shipped on time and meet customer specifications while managing the quality assurance processes to maintain high standards. The position requires a focus on compliance with safety and environmental regulations, as well as adherence to ISO and other management system standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that finished products are shipped on time and according to customer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and information on shipments in SAP.
  • Manage warehouse inventory of finished products; ensure products are maintained in saleable condition.
  • Determine optimum workflows for packaging, storing, and staging of material to minimize product handling and labor cost.
  • Observe equipment condition to detect malfunctions; ensure that maintenance and repairs are performed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain safe working conditions within the warehouse; ensure compliance with all safety-related policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Manage the Quality laboratory processes and personnel, including hiring, disciplining, performance evaluation, training, and development.
  • Ensure that final products meet quality standards and approve/release them for shipment to customers.
  • Lead the site quality management system to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and RC 14001 management systems standards.
  • Plan and lead management system documentation, training, audits, and continual improvement.
  • Manage and complete root cause analysis and corrective action for product and system non-conformances.
  • Identify opportunities for quality improvement and engage appropriate personnel in improvement activities.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree is required; a degree in a technical discipline is strongly preferred, especially in chemistry, supply chain, or engineering.
  • Three to five years of experience in quality assurance, preferably in a chemical or petrochemical producer, pharmaceutical manufacturer, or oil and gas.
  • At least three years of experience in logistics, warehousing, shipping, and receiving at a chemical company or manufacturer is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to truck and rail shipments is very helpful.
  • Supervisory experience is strongly desired; experience in a union shop is an advantage.
  • Advanced skills in SAP, particularly in logistics and materials management modules, are required.
