About the position

The Shipping & Receiving position at RR Donnelley involves assisting with daily activities in the shipping department, focusing on the movement and handling of materials, receiving, loading, unloading, and shipping printed products. The role requires both manual and clerical duties to ensure that products are prepared according to customer specifications and service level agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and clerical duties related to the shipment and receipt of materials, supplies, equipment, and finished products.
  • Check goods against shipping documents and authorizations, packing goods for shipment according to specifications.
  • Prepare bills of lading, post weight and shipping charges, and attach information and shipping instructions to boxes.
  • Unload trucks and check received materials against bills of lading and packing slips for identification and quantity.
  • Maintain records of goods received and perform routine duties in support of manufacturing areas according to standard procedures.
  • Utilize small hand tools and operate material handling equipment including forklifts, skids, and hand trucks to stage materials and load trucks.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers, customer service, and production teams.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships within service areas and coordinate resources for product handling and shipping.
  • Assist management with departmental activities, training, safety, and special projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Inspect products and shipments to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Attend production meetings and coordinate shipping/receiving activities with other departments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure security at receiving/shipping dock doors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of administrative/operational support in shipping/manufacturing operations.
  • Ability to apply applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and program objectives consistently.
  • General knowledge of required information systems, including materials tracking and inventory control systems.
  • Basic knowledge of technology, including computers and software programs.
  • Adequate oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively across departments.
  • Strong organizational skills to accomplish work by established deadlines and coordinate phases of work with others.
  • Ability to safely operate Powered Industrial Vehicles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with materials tracking systems and applicable reporting systems such as spreadsheets and databases.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
