About the position

The Shipping Team Leader is responsible for educating and guiding the shipping team in best practices while ensuring that all shipping operations align with the company's core values. This role involves planning, leading, and organizing daily activities within the shipping department, managing personnel issues, and ensuring accurate and timely shipments. The Shipping Team Leader also acts on behalf of the manager when necessary and is accountable for the performance and development of the shipping staff.

Responsibilities

• Educate shipping team members on best practices tailored to individual needs.
• Plan, lead, and organize daily actions within the shipping department.
• Identify daily shipping requirements and delegate activities based on available labor and skills.
• Ensure all eligible shipments are coordinated, executed, and documented correctly.
• Manage department personnel issues and performance.
• Collaborate with scheduling, customer service, and assembly departments to resolve shipping obstacles.
• Step into the manager's role during their absence or when appropriate.
• Conduct training and development for shipping personnel.
• Provide regular performance feedback and conduct employee reviews.
• Develop process work instructions to meet key performance metrics and customer requirements.
• Ensure accurate shipping documentation such as packing lists and shipping labels.
• Support export compliance activities and coordinate customer requirements.
• Manage shipment order changes and exceptions, and verify outgoing shipment records.
• Address customer concerns regarding lost or damaged shipments and file carrier claims.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in shipping and logistics operations.
• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Ability to train and develop team members effectively.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and shipping software.
