About the position

The Shop & Field Mechanic will diagnosis, troubleshoot, fix, repair, and maintain heavy equipment in both shop and field project environments by addressing repairs, performance issues, and completing preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment including drilling rigs, excavators, mobile cranes, rock trucks, front-end loaders, dozers, skid steers, man lifts, passenger vehicles, pumps, light plants, and other company owned equipment. The Shop & Field Mechanic will utilize various welding techniques to weld / fabricate metal components, materials as specified by blueprints, work orders, and/or oral instructions in an effort to recondition parts and materials required for operational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and troubleshoot equipment in the field in a safe and timely manner.
  • Inspect equipment and schedule repairs before failure or breakdown.
  • Schedule work to be performed with job supervisors to keep the equipment in shape without causing down time on the job.
  • Recognize equipment failure and cause of failure to eliminate future problems.
  • Communicate with supervisors on problems with equipment or potential problems coming up.
  • Repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines used to power machines, and construction machinery, using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and machine tools.
  • Troubleshoot and repair construction machinery, troubleshoot equipment performance problems, provide recommendations for problem resolution.
  • Disassemble and reassemble engine systems in order to locate defects.
  • Diagnose trouble and examines parts for defects and excessive wear.
  • Inspect, diagnose and repair many different types of construction components, such as, conveyor systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
  • Exercise proper lockout/tag out procedures when necessary.
  • Exercise safe working practices including proper personal utilization of situationally required PPE.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on construction machinery and equipment; and keeps proper reports and records of all tasks performed.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests on engine systems and equipment to determine and correct system faults.
  • Complete daily maintenance forms, repair logs, JHA's (Job Hazard Analysis) and other required documents.
  • Maintain communication with Supervisor and collaborates effectively with other mechanics.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Accountable for all company assigned tools and equipment.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 5 years of hands-on diagnostic and repair experience of heavy construction equipment required.
  • Candidates with equivalent combination of experience, applicable education / training, will be considered.
  • Previous hands-on diagnostic and repair experience of passenger vehicles.
  • Previous hands-on diagnostic and repair experience of drilling equipment.
  • Previous hands-on diagnostic and repair experience of commercial trucks and trailers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Valid US state issued driver's license required.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
