About the position
The Laborer position is essential for supporting telecommunications construction operations by performing various general labor duties as directed by the Shop Supervisor. This role involves maintaining shop cleanliness, assisting mechanics and welders, and ensuring safe working conditions while operating and working around heavy equipment.
Responsibilities
- Complete general labor duties related to telecommunications construction as directed by the Shop Supervisor.
- Perform all phases of shop maintenance including loading, driving, delivery, and sweeping.
- Remove and replace parts and shop items as needed.
- Organize parts and tools within the shop.
- Assist welders and mechanics in their tasks.
- Climb in and out of equipment such as trucks, cars, backhoes, and trenchers.
- Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery safely.
- Clean and maintain the shop, equipment, and tools.
- Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and moving or stationary objects to ensure safety.
- Perform general construction shop work under supervision.
- Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to regulations and policies.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have authorization to work in the United States.
- Must possess a valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment safely.
- Basic knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and equipment safely.
- Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance.
- Ability to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or on-call.
- Ability to maintain a safe work environment and work in all weather conditions.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in shop maintenance.
- Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify underground utilities.
- Effective communication skills with customers and employees.
