About the position

The Shop Technician at Kele Companies is responsible for performing electrical and light mechanical assembly of finished products, as well as the assembly, repair, setup, and calibration of control instrumentation and control panels. This role involves testing and calibrating industrial control instrumentation, programming instrumentation, and ensuring proper functionality of the units calibrated. The technician will also communicate with customers, maintain documentation, and work safely in a shop environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing and calibration of industrial control instrumentation.
  • Calibrate components using various equipment including multi-meters and power supplies.
  • Program instrumentation using PCs, laptops, and test jigs.
  • Answer questions regarding the functionality of calibrated units.
  • Set up laboratory equipment to test and evaluate instruments.
  • Measure parts for conformity with specifications.
  • Communicate with sales/customers about product usage.
  • Complete and maintain pertinent paperwork and records.
  • Evaluate and repair electrical or mechanical malfunctions of instrumentation.
  • Inspect incoming returned products for stock status or repair needs.
  • Build assemblies using hand and power tools according to procedures.
  • Verify correct parts and quantities received along with proper paperwork.
  • Visually inspect all assemblies for conformance to specifications.
  • Refer to vendor literature for wiring diagrams and assembly instructions.
  • Contact vendors for technical support as needed.
  • Confer with Production Supervisor regarding assembly status.
  • Complete documentation in the company order system and Microsoft Office.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements

  • 3 years of experience in the industrial process controls industry.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience with assembly tools including cranes and forklifts.
  • Understanding of hand tools and fastener torques.
  • Knowledge of analog vs discrete control of instrumentation and 4 to 20 mA signals.
  • Familiarity with HART, DE, Fieldbus communication, and smart devices.
  • Firm understanding of AC vs DC power in industrial control.
  • Knowledge of pressure transmitters and switches, including configuration and calibration.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical, mechanical, and P&ID control drawings.
  • Experience with TIG welding and weld leak detection.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the industrial process controls industry for more than 3 years.
  • Understanding of remote diaphragm seals and their applications.
  • Ability to use multimeters for testing valves and instruments.
  • Experience with shop calibration instrumentation for testing assemblies.
