About the position

The objective of the apprentice position in the Digital Media Program is to develop professionals who can provide leadership and expertise in a fully equipped educational, or professional Digital media facility. The apprentice not only provides instructional support for faculty, staff, and students but also develops skills, abilities, and sensitivities for assisting a diverse adult population in an educational setting. Apprentices will develop an understanding of the general processes for print and multimedia. They will also develop the necessary skills to maintain, monitor, stock, and inventory the facility to support instruction and/or production of a wide range of Digital Media. Under general supervision, they will learn to provide students with needed equipment; direct students in the appropriate use of equipment; and facilitate a safe learning environment for students, staff, and faculty. They will also facilitate flow of students through a lab facility as well as assist in overseeing the operation of digital media equipment in the digital media lab. The apprentice may be employed for a maximum of nine (9) semesters, consecutive or cumulative, including summer sessions, and may not work more than 170 working days or more than 980 hours during the academic year.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Successful completion of beginning (level A), intermediate and advanced level (Level B) Digital Media courses or equivalent.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate campus and department policy to students and faculty.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Digital Media processes, equipment and aesthetics, including lab usage and programs used in print and multimedia.
  • Knowledge of basic Digital Media processing.
  • Knowledge of safety issues of Digital Media processes involving multi-user public use space.
  • Knowledge of Mac OS and Adobe Creative Cloud.
