About the position

The Invo team is currently seeking a full-time Sign-Language Interpreter to provide services in Gastonia, NC for the 24/25 school year. The Sign-Language Interpreter will work closely with students, teachers, and other educational staff to facilitate communication and ensure that Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have equal access to educational opportunities. The role requires a strong commitment to supporting student success and a deep understanding of Deaf culture and the unique challenges faced by these students in an educational setting. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary certification and licensure, along with a background in ASL/English Interpretation or a related field. Responsibilities

  • Provide sign language interpretation services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and other staff members.
  • Support students in their educational activities and ensure they have equal access to the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to develop effective communication strategies for individual students.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to ethical standards of conduct while interpreting.

Requirements

  • Must have 3.3 or higher EIPA Score.
  • State of North Carolina certification or licensure for educational interpreters, if applicable.
  • Bachelor's degree in ASL/English Interpretation, Deaf Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Completion of an interpreter training program.
  • Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience with a variety of sign systems and modes of communication used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other sign systems as needed.
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the educational challenges faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting student success.
