About the position

Sorenson Communications is seeking qualified Sign Language Interpreters to provide Video Relay Service (VRS) interpreting services in Albuquerque, NM. This role involves interpreting between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English, ensuring effective communication for Deaf and hearing individuals. The position requires a minimum of 10 hours of interpreting services per month, with shifts available from Monday to Saturday, between 7 AM and 7 PM MT. Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate compliance with national, state, and local licensure and certification requirements, as well as adhere to Sorenson's standards and policies, FCC regulations, and the RID Code of Professional Conduct. The role is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring interpreters to maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the VRS industry. Interpreters will also have opportunities for continued education and professional development, including reimbursement for certification testing and membership fees based on hours worked. Responsibilities

  • Effectively interpret between American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
  • Maintain compliance with national, state, or local licensure and certification requirements.
  • Demonstrate compliance with Sorenson standards and policies, FCC regulations, and the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Accurately complete assigned tasks, projects, and paperwork promptly and within approved guidelines.
  • Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of the VRS industry.
  • Quickly learn and implement new and changing technologies.
  • Work effectively in a team environment, providing and receiving support from colleagues.
  • Work effectively in an environment with oversight, including call monitoring and evaluations.
  • Enhance interpreting skills through continued education training.
  • Complete additional duties and assignments on an ongoing basis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Ability to pass the required skills assessment.
  • Interpreter certification is required.
  • 3 years of experience working as an interpreter is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, highly regulated, and customer service-focused environment.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.

Nice-to-haves

  • An associate's or bachelor's degree is preferred but not required.
  • Previous VRS experience is preferred.
