Boeing Commercial Airplanes has an exciting opportunity for a Sign Painter (Graphic Designer) to join our exceptional Graphics team in Everett, WA. As a Sign Painter, you will have the opportunity to develop, design, produce, and apply graphics, illustrations, or lettering to company signs, banners, and other surfaces. You will use computer-controlled printers/plotters and free-hand methods to create drawings. You will work with various media to develop graphics for internal and external customers. You will maintain an inventory of supplies required to perform graphic reproduction per the customer's request. Responsibilities

  • Obtain job assignments from online sources, such as drawings, sketches, and photos, or through verbal instructions from customers, ensuring a clear understanding of requirements.
  • Maintain an inventory of necessary supplies, including paints, inks, and dyes, to fulfill graphic reproduction requests in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Utilize computer systems, such as PCs and Macintosh, to design, create, and manipulate graphics packages with precision and creativity.
  • Collaborate with various customers, such as Industrial Engineering, Airlines, and Manufacturing, to develop, design, and facilitate graphics package requests, ensuring alignment with their specific needs.
  • Apply mathematical formulas, including algebra and trigonometry, to perform accurate layout for banners, signs, and illustrations as required.
  • Develop programming for computer-controlled printers/plotters using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software, such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, or design custom programs for specific projects.
  • Install and upgrade software for computer-created graphics packages, ensuring compatibility and optimal performance.
  • Utilize various media, such as ink, paint, lacquer, and gold leaf, to create graphics that meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Print graphics using a range of equipment, including ink-based plotters/printers and knife bed plotters, employing precise techniques to achieve desired results.
  • Operate silk screen equipment to process multiple copies of graphics packages, adhering to quality standards and production requirements.
  • Utilize measuring tools, such as rulers, tee squares, and compasses, to accurately perform layout of graphics according to specifications.
  • Cut stencils for projects by hand or using appropriate machinery, ensuring precision and attention to detail.
  • Apply paints/inks to jobs using various hand tools, including brushes, airbrushes, and paint sprayers, achieving desired visual effects.
  • Create recognition award certificates and retirement portraits as per specific requests and guidelines.
  • Apply graphics on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces using ladders, scaffolding, and manlift equipment, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Perform planned maintenance and repair tasks on printing/plotting equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to procure necessary parts and equipment for the maintenance of printers/plotters.
  • Handle hazardous materials, such as solvents, thinners, and lacquers, in strict accordance with company procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to personal protective equipment requirements, including the use of respirators, gloves, and aprons, while painting/spraying.
  • Maintain personal certifications, such as manlift operation and respirator usage, as required by company policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience creating graphics.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Experience using all the following Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Experience using Sketch, InVision, Adobe Creative cloud, Illustrator, Photoshop.
  • Experience working in a fast paced, high-volume environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication across diverse audiences.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
