About the position

The Camera Hardware Engineering group at Apple is seeking a highly skilled individual to drive the development of next-generation camera hardware and chipset architecture. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to innovate and enhance camera systems, ensuring superior user experiences in Apple products. The candidate will leverage their expertise in electrical engineering, physics, and signal processing to define and implement advanced camera technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally to define and develop digital control, processing, and functional capabilities for next-generation camera sensors.
  • Identify opportunities for advancement in camera systems aligned with emerging technologies and critical system constraints.
  • Evaluate problem/solution space including system constraint discovery to identify creative architectural implementation approaches.
  • Develop and drive chip-level specifications through the implementation phase.
  • Support bring-up and debug of initial silicon implementation including the development of optimized settings for key product-level camera features.
  • Represent new camera silicon in cross-functional forums in support of productization of sensor features across hardware, software, and system, assessing feature and implementation trade-offs.
  • Conduct hands-on analysis including data-path/algorithm, performance, and power trade-offs to help define and refine our camera sensors.
  • Participate and drive the advancement of our architectural exploration/development methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Knowledgeable in hardware architecture and digital design principles.
  • Experience leading development of novel features on image sensing devices or complex SoC/mixed-signal designs.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to drive and lead technical initiatives across distributed multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated background in silicon bring-up and debug, hardware-software system integration, and final productization.
  • Experience with modeling and simulating device/system designs to assess power/performance/area/bandwidth/latency trade-offs.
  • Experience in algorithm development and signal processing data-path design.
  • Experience in Matlab, C, Python, or other programming/scripting languages.
  • Experience in neural network processing hardware architectures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid collaboration and leadership skills.
