About the position

The Silicon Photonics / Optical Packaging Engineer will play a crucial role in developing high-volume, low-cost optical interconnect applications using silicon photonics technology. This position involves leading the packaging technology development for silicon photonics, focusing on optical engine module design, optical coupling, and co-packaging solutions. The engineer will work collaboratively with multi-functional teams and external vendors to bring innovative packaging solutions from concept to high-volume manufacturing (HVM).

Responsibilities

  • Lead Si photonics packaging technology development.
  • Work with multi-functional teams to develop optical engine modules and optical coupling designs.
  • Drive micro-optical component assembly and interface characterization through innovation.
  • Collaborate with optical component vendors, foundries, and OSAT to implement packaging solutions from concept to HVM.

Requirements

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Strong theoretical background in optics and photonics fundamentals, device/module integration.
  • M.S. in Physics (Optics major), Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field desired.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in the related field.
  • Hands-on experience in packaging and measuring fiber-coupled devices.
  • Experience in optical component design, simulation, and qualification, and single/multi-mode fiber assembly using active and passive alignment tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ph.D. in Physics (Optics major), Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field desired.
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the related field.
  • Hands-on experience with CMOS BEOL wafer scale processing and flip chip assembly (CoC, CoW, WLP, etc.).
  • Experience with silicon photonics devices such as lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and passive components like Si waveguides, MUX/DeMUX.
