About the position

The Site Civil Engineer - Grading Design position involves designing and managing grading, drainage, and earthwork components for various site development projects. The role requires a strong understanding of civil engineering principles and the ability to work independently while collaborating with senior engineers and project stakeholders to deliver effective site design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and preparation of grading plans addressing site grading, stormwater management, and erosion control for various projects.
  • Design and implement effective stormwater management strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations and sustainable practices.
  • Prepare earthwork estimates and perform cut-and-fill analysis to optimize site grading and minimize costs.
  • Conduct site assessments, review surveys, and analyze topographic maps to understand site conditions and identify potential issues.
  • Collaborate with project managers, senior engineers, CAD team, architects, and environmental consultants to integrate grading and site design with other project disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance of grading designs with local zoning codes, building codes, stormwater regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Support the construction phase by reviewing contractor submittals, attending site meetings, and resolving field issues related to grading and drainage.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and assist in reviewing their work for quality and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in site civil engineering with a focus on grading design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Experience with geotechnical site analysis or environmental consulting is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with hydrology and drainage design software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of grading, earthwork calculations, and stormwater management principles.
  • Familiarity with soil mechanics, site drainage, and erosion control practices.
  • Experience working with land development codes, environmental regulations, and stormwater management guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently under deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydrology and drainage design software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, StormCAD).
  • Experience with both residential and commercial site development projects.
