About the position

In the role of Site/Civil Engineer at HDR, you will be integral to the design and planning of civil engineering projects. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide variety of tasks, including the development of site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and erosion and sediment control. You will be expected to create detailed design plans, profiles, and specifications, ensuring that all engineering activities meet the required standards and regulations. Additionally, you will prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans and perform quantity takeoffs, which are essential for project budgeting and resource allocation. Your role will also involve performing water quality and quantity calculations, preparing basis of design narratives, and drafting contract documents. You will be tasked with executing complex assignments that require sound judgment in evaluating, selecting, and modifying standard engineering techniques and procedures. As a Site/Civil Engineer, you will make significant decisions regarding design and engineering procedures, contributing to the overall success of the projects you work on. While project management is not the primary focus of this position, you may function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed. This role will also require you to supervise a small team of professionals and technicians, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and efficiency. You will be expected to perform other duties as necessary to support the team and the projects at hand.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, erosion & sediment control, and associated civil engineering activities
  • Develop design plans, profiles and details
  • Prepare Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Perform quantity takeoffs
  • Prepare basis of design narratives
  • Perform water quality and quantity calculations
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed
  • Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related Engineering degree
  • PE (Professional Engineer) certification
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads, Siteworks
  • Experience with stormwater design modeling programs such as HydroCAD, Hydraflow Hydrographs, Storm & Sanitary Analysis, Hecras, etc
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
