About the position

The Site Civil Engineer at HDR will be part of an integrated facility and infrastructure design team, responsible for the design of facilities related to various markets including Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Federal, and Mission Critical buildings. This role involves coordinating with a multidisciplinary design team throughout the project lifecycle, from planning to construction administration, with a focus on delivering high-quality civil site designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and plan production for general civil on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities
  • Perform quantity calculations
  • Prepare specifications and contract documents
  • Interface with Jurisdictional Authorities and conduct permitting reviews
  • Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
  • Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed
  • Function as Project Manager or Project Engineer as needed
  • Oversee work of other professionals and technicians as needed
  • Prepare/Review civil engineering scope of work and budgets/estimates for proposals
  • Establish client relations and be involved with marketing, contractual, design and production meetings
  • Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust work effort with team to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedule
  • Perform other duties as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering such as InRoads, Siteworks, Hecras, etc
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong operating knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Proficiency in modeling software such as Hydraflow Storm Sewers, Hydraflow Hydrographs, HydroCAD, Bentley StormCAD or similar software
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
  • Previous project management experience
  • 4+ years civil engineering experience across the full spectrum of site civil design including site selection, due diligence, master planning, site design; including demolition plans, grading and drainage design, utility design, and civil details
