About the position

The Site Coordinator plays a crucial role in coordinating the construction of safe, decent, and affordable housing through Habitat for Humanity of the Magic Valley (HFH-MV). This position involves overseeing the entire construction process for all HFH-MV projects, ensuring that homes are built on time and within budget while adhering to applicable building codes. The Site Coordinator is responsible for supervising on-site construction activities, which includes leading construction site supervisors, crew leaders, and volunteers. A key aspect of this role is to create a positive and encouraging work atmosphere that fosters collaboration and teamwork among all participants involved in the construction process. In addition to overseeing construction activities, the Site Coordinator is tasked with procuring construction materials through a competitive bidding process and assisting in the development of donations of professional labor and in-kind materials. This role requires the creation of schedules and budgets for the entire scope of HFH-MV projects, as well as planning for future construction cycles. Safety is a top priority, and the Site Coordinator must ensure that safety guidelines are followed on-site and that adequate training is provided to the construction team and daily volunteers. The Site Coordinator holds the main responsibility for the timely delivery of homes and projects, ensuring that all work meets the required standards and regulations. The Site Coordinator also plays a supervisory role, coordinating with staff to ensure optimal volunteer coverage and providing proper training on Habitat's construction practices and safety procedures. This position requires strong communication skills to work closely with the volunteer coordinator and to maintain good relationships with subcontractors and municipal staff. Administrative responsibilities include coding and approving invoices, documenting in-kind donations, and ensuring all necessary paperwork is in order before subcontractors begin work. Overall, the Site Coordinator is essential in ensuring that HFH-MV fulfills its mission of building homes and communities while promoting a culture of safety, respect, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the construction process on all HFH-MV projects.
  • Supervise and lead on-site construction, including site supervisors and crew leaders, as well as construction volunteers.
  • Create a positive and encouraging work atmosphere.
  • Procure construction materials through a competitive bid process and assist in the development of donations of professional labor and in-kind materials.
  • Create schedules and budgets for the entire scope of HFH-MV projects.
  • Plan for future construction cycles.
  • Ensure that safety guidelines are followed on-site and that adequate training is provided to the construction team and daily volunteers.
  • Hold the main responsibility for the delivery of homes/projects on time and within budget.
  • Ensure that homes are built in accordance with applicable building codes.
  • Evaluate potential donated homes/REO properties for feasibility of future projects.
  • Prepare materials list from plans and organize timely ordering and delivery of materials and supplies.
  • Implement a regular process for bidding subcontractors and vendors.
  • Seek out and implement gift-in-kind (GIK) partners in the construction process while coordinating with the Executive Director.
  • Develop good working relationships with subcontractors.
  • Work with various municipal staff on the application and approval of permits, inspections, and specifications as required.
  • Maintain and ensure on-time and on-budget completion of homes.
  • Provide staffing, volunteer leadership, and adequate materials and tools to create excellent volunteer experiences on construction sites.
  • Monitor site recycling, material reuse, and material storage activities.
  • Maintain tools and equipment inventory and coordinate tools and equipment among construction sites.
  • Oversee completion of 'punch-list' items.
  • Ensure that the team meets all standards related to affiliate green building and energy efficiency practices and other building programs in which the affiliate may be involved.
  • Conduct walk-through inspections with families upon completion of the home.
  • Work with family volunteer coordinator in providing necessary warranty cards and manuals for the homeowner manual.
  • Work with partner families on call backs, warranty issues, or maintenance advice.
  • Coordinate with staff for optimal and efficient volunteer coverage.
  • Ensure proper training and instructions on Habitat's construction practices and safety procedures are given to all volunteers.
  • Enforce safety policy and OSHA safety standards on site.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee a team of site supervisors and crew leaders to support the building efforts of the affiliate.
  • Maintain an active construction committee and facilitate construction committee meetings.
  • Work closely with the volunteer coordinator to coordinate weekly and monthly schedules as well as long-term planning for volunteer needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and turn in paperwork and timesheets in a timely manner.
  • Properly code and approve invoices and sales slips for purchased materials and all other construction-related expenses.
  • Document in-kind donations and communicate these with the Executive Director.
  • Ensure W-9, contractor's license, certificate of insurance for general liability, and workers compensation are on file prior to subcontractor starting project.

Requirements

  • Experience in the residential construction industry.
  • Experience with repairs and remodels.
  • Experience managing volunteer-run construction programs is a plus.
  • Experience managing teams of skilled professionals.
  • Basic mathematical aptitude to calculate building measurements, quantities, etc.
  • Safety and first-aid training for emergencies on-site.
  • Basic computer skills.
