About the position

The Site Quality Inspector role at Black & Veatch involves overseeing and ensuring the quality of construction projects in the solar sector. This position is responsible for implementing quality plans, coordinating with various stakeholders, and managing site quality control staff. The inspector will ensure compliance with applicable codes and specifications, conduct audits, and maintain documentation for quality assurance. The role emphasizes continuous professional development and the application of safety and ethical standards in construction practices.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes, implements, and maintains site quality program.
  • Coordinates with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory representatives to ensure correct work execution.
  • Assures on-site work meets applicable codes and specifications.
  • Conducts surveillance and audits of site Contractor Quality Control Programs.
  • Manages all aspects of welder qualification on-site testing.
  • Issues, controls, and coordinates Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) and Non Destructive Examination (NDE) contacts.
  • Establishes inspection plans and tracks inspections/actions identified.
  • Approves site testing such as soils testing, concrete placement, and hydro tests, ensuring proper documentation.
  • Reviews and controls documentation for certification of construction and testing equipment.
  • Reviews turnover packages prior to handoff to Startup.
  • Coordinates punchlist walkdowns/inspections and manages the punchlist.
  • Collates Quality Control documentation for final handover to Owner.
  • Interfaces with clients and government officials.
  • Develops and implements quality programs to meet company and division quality goals.
  • Acts as Quality Consultant for internal and external clients.
  • May act as temporary project fill-in for lower level quality professionals.
  • Provides supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports.
  • Acts as mentor to other quality professionals.
  • Implements Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, and Lessons Learned in accordance with Division Policies, Standards, and Guidelines.
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts and change management associated with improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of construction supervisory experience with a degree, or 5+ years without a degree.
  • Certification in discipline (e.g., AWS, CWI) or relevant geographical equivalent certification is desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • High School Diploma or geographical equivalent qualification preferred.
  • Engineering, Quality, Business or Construction Management degree or craft apprenticeship preferred.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and practices.
  • Knowledge of construction technology and the EPC industry.
  • Constructability knowledge and ability to read Erection Drawings (GA's, P&ID's, Isometrics).
  • Knowledge of National and International Codes and Standards.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and project budget processes.
