About the position

The Service Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at PlayStation is crucial for ensuring the stability and operational excellence of cloud gaming services. The SRE team is responsible for influencing design and operational decisions to enhance the overall gaming experience for customers. This position requires a self-directed individual who can engage in decision-making processes and provide critical feedback throughout the software development lifecycle, focusing on production ownership, code quality, and deployments.

Responsibilities

• Influence design and operational decisions to ensure service stability.
• Participate in decision-making processes at various levels.
• Engage throughout the software development lifecycle to ensure operational readiness.
• Provide critical feedback during different phases of the operational lifecycle.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years working experience in Software Development and/or Linux Systems Administration role.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Available to be scheduled in on-call rotation.
• Proficient as a Linux Production Systems Engineer with experience managing large scale Web Services infrastructure.
• Development experience in one or more programming languages: Python (preferred), Bash, Go, Java, C++, or Rust.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with distributed data storage at scale (Hadoop, Ceph).
• Experience with NoSQL at scale (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra).
• Familiarity with data aggregation technologies (ElasticSearch, Kafka).
• Experience scaling and running traditional RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL) with High Availability.
• Knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana).
• Experience with incident management toolsets.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes and/or AWS (deployment and management).
• Experience with software distribution and configuration management (Ansible, SaltStack, Puppet, Chef).
• Experience in software performance analysis and load testing.
