About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer II at Vertafore is responsible for ensuring the high availability and stability of the company's software products. This role involves addressing support escalations, debugging application issues, collaborating with product teams, and automating support processes. The engineer will also participate in root cause analysis, create runbooks, and mentor others, all while working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment focused on customer success.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert on application architecture and data relationships.
  • Address support escalations from Customer Support and IT Operations teams.
  • Debug and correct application configurations, codes, database queries, and data to restore incidents.
  • Collaborate with product owners and managers for solutions requiring non-operational development engagement.
  • Conduct peer reviews on code changes as required.
  • Perform reverse engineering to troubleshoot issues.
  • Automate support processes and maintain deployment pipelines.
  • Deploy hotfixes and ad hoc database changes to lower environments, coordinating with IT Operations for production changes.
  • Collaborate with IT Operations and development teams to ensure proactive monitoring and high availability of products.
  • Recommend and collaborate on innovative solutions to optimize product and team performance.
  • Take ownership of root cause analysis to resolve problems permanently.
  • Create and maintain runbooks outlining development support procedures.
  • Participate or lead assigned projects.
  • Communicate solutions effectively to both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Comply with standard processes and security policies when implementing solutions.
  • Be on call as required for emergency escalations needing development engagement.
  • Mentor others as required.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant experience.
  • 3+ years of similar working experience.
  • Good grasp of Agile software development methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows and .NET frameworks.
  • Experience writing database queries on SQL Server or equivalent platforms.
  • Coding and scripting skills in C#, PowerShell, Python, or other relevant languages.
  • Experience navigating Linux environments is preferred; candidates without this experience must show a willingness to learn.
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or SysOps certification is desired; candidates without AWS experience must show a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to simplify complex issues and solve problems effectively.
  • Skilled in creating runbooks for support processes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Great team player with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to comply with processes and procedures and maintain professional composure.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to ITIL framework is highly desired.
  • Exposure to the insurance industry is desired but not mandatory.
