About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at ByteDance focuses on enhancing the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of infrastructure services. This position involves working collaboratively within a team to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges, ensuring that services are robust and cost-effective while maintaining high availability and performance. The SRE will engage in various phases of the software development lifecycle and contribute to the overall health of the infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team in improving the reliability, scalability, and release cycle of infrastructure services from inception to deployment.
  • Build tools, automations, visualizations, and monitors to enhance service reliability and facilitate global infrastructure operations.
  • Ensure infrastructure services are reliable, fault-tolerant, efficiently scalable, and cost-effective.
  • Measure and monitor availability, latency, and overall service health.
  • Practice sustainable user support, incident response, and conduct blameless postmortems.
  • Share on-call responsibility and troubleshoot problems across various services and functional areas.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any), Information Technology, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related STEM field with 1 year of related work experience; OR a Bachelor's degree in the same fields with 3 years of related work experience.
  • 1 year of experience in Linux administration, including performance monitoring, debugging, and network behavior analysis.
  • Experience designing scalable and highly available software systems for cloud environments.
  • Experience working across all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of back-end and cloud-native projects.
  • Experience building automation tools and scripts.
