About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer at USAA plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability and reliability of applications within the Property & Casualty Information Technology organization. This senior-level position involves leading application teams through their Site Reliability journey, utilizing advanced monitoring and technology tools to maintain system performance and availability for USAA members and customer service representatives. The role emphasizes collaboration, technical problem-solving, and mentoring within a flexible work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions across various technologies.
  • Lead code/design reviews and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Develop complex algorithms to address business needs.
  • Investigate and resolve complex application and system technical problems.
  • Mentor and coach engineers on design, development, and maintenance of systems.
  • Influence and shape the architecture and quality standards of the domain.
  • Identify and optimize system performance issues, including technical debt.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively managed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6 years of software development experience with depth in specific technologies.
  • 4 years of experience in delivering technology solutions across the software development lifecycle.
  • Basic understanding of programming languages such as Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, and Python.
  • Experience in researching technical issues and generating innovative solutions.
  • Experience in troubleshooting applications and systems for production issues.
  • Strong knowledge of security coding practices and secure system fundamentals.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with development of Property & Casualty applications.
  • Understanding of Site Reliability Engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with ITIL processes and incident management.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as ELK and DataDog.
