About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer, Sr. Advisor position at Peraton is a critical role within the Information Technology sector, specifically focused on Cyber Mission. This position is based in Laurel, MD, and requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance with a polygraph. The primary objective of this role is to ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of the systems that support national security missions. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with development teams to automate and streamline deployment pipelines, utilizing tools such as Python, Kubernetes, and Ansible. A significant part of the role involves maintaining and enhancing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes, particularly with GitLab, to facilitate smooth code integration and delivery. In addition to automation, the role requires monitoring and troubleshooting system performance to ensure high availability and efficient resource utilization. The candidate will also leverage ElasticSearch to enhance logging, monitoring, and analytic capabilities, contributing to the architecture and design of AWS-based infrastructure while adhering to security and scalability best practices. This position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development and system engineering, with extensive experience in managing and monitoring large cloud systems. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is highly desired, along with relevant certifications. Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with development teams to automate and streamline deployment pipelines using Python, Kubernetes, and Ansible.
  • Maintain and enhance CI/CD processes with a focus on GitLab, ensuring smooth code integration and delivery.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot system performance, ensuring high availability and efficient resource utilization.
  • Utilize ElasticSearch to enhance logging, monitoring, and analytic capabilities.
  • Contribute to the architecture and design of AWS-based infrastructure, ensuring security and scalability best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Cloud Systems Administrator or Developer Certification.
  • Fourteen (14) years of experience in software development/engineering, including requirements analysis, software development, installation, integration, evaluation, enhancement, maintenance, testing, and problem diagnosis/resolution.
  • Ten (10) years of experience in system engineering/architecture.
  • Ten (10) years of experience working with products that support highly distributed, massively parallel computation needs such as Hbase, Hadoop, Acumulo, Big Table, Cassandra, Scality, etc.
  • At least ten (10) years of experience writing software scripts using scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or Ruby for software automation.
  • At least four (4) years of experience managing and monitoring large Cloud Systems.
  • Experience in providing technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of complete hardware/software systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong proficiency in Python, Kubernetes, and Ansible for infrastructure automation and orchestration.
  • Experience with GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with ElasticSearch for log management and monitoring.
  • Working knowledge of AWS services and architecture.
