About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) position at Peraton involves providing enterprise IT infrastructure and legacy applications maintenance support to an Intelligence Community (IC) customer. The role encompasses various function areas including Operations and Maintenance (O&M), enhancements to legacy applications and systems, infrastructure security, web applications, compliance-related audits, Service/Help Desk support, procurement of hardware and software, and Disaster Recovery (DR). The SRE will be responsible for implementing and maintaining scalable and resilient cloud-based infrastructure using AWS services, developing automation scripts for resource management, and ensuring consistent and secure deployments across different environments. In this role, the engineer will automate deployment, scaling, and management of containers, troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues, and continuously improve cloud infrastructure and configuration management processes. The SRE will also implement proactive monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system health and security compliance, providing immediate notifications in the event of outages or performance issues. Security and compliance are critical, and the engineer will leverage knowledge of NIST standards to maintain the security posture of the systems, conducting regular security scans as part of the build processes. The position emphasizes continuous improvement and innovation, requiring collaboration with stakeholders to identify and implement innovative approaches throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The SRE will conduct performance testing and regression testing after major releases to ensure system stability and utilize DevSecOps processes to enhance speed and agility while reducing risks. This position is contingent on contract award, highlighting the importance of adaptability and readiness to meet the evolving needs of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and resilient cloud-based infrastructure using AWS services.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure automation scripts to provision and manage AWS resources.
  • Enable configuration management, ensuring consistent and secure deployments across various environments.
  • Automate deployment, scaling, and management of containers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cloud infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Continuously improve and optimize cloud infrastructure and configuration management processes to enhance efficiency and reduce manual interventions.
  • Include test scripts for automated performance testing during build, test, and deployment phases.
  • Monitor AWS resource consumption and associated costs, implementing cost optimization strategies.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and logging solutions to ensure system health and security compliance.
  • Provide immediate notification and detailed communication in the event of system-wide outages or performance issues.
  • Leverage knowledge of NIST standards to maintain the APS security posture.
  • Conduct regular security scans as part of the build processes.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and implement innovative approaches throughout the SDLC.
  • Conduct performance testing and regression testing after major releases to ensure system stability.
  • Utilize DevSecOps processes to enhance speed, agility, and reduce risks.
  • Perform detailed analysis of proposed innovations to evaluate their benefits and feasibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 6 years of Cloud Engineering experience.
  • Must possess and maintain TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph.
  • Experience as a Cloud Engineer or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of AWS core services such as EC2, R3, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, and others.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Jenkins).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Java, TypeScript, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of networking protocols and security best practices.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
  • Professional certification(s) in AWS.
