About the position

Apple's Health team is seeking a high-energy Site Reliability Engineer. As a member of our dynamic group, you'll have the rare and rewarding opportunity to craft upcoming products that will delight and inspire millions of Apple's customers every day. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and performance of our services, focusing on data and backend engineering, continuous integration, and continuous deployment in a fast-changing world of software delivery. You will enjoy using technology to automate solutions and optimize outcomes, contributing to the overall success of the team and the products we deliver. Your work will involve collaborating with various teams to enhance our systems and processes, ensuring that we maintain high standards of quality and efficiency. You will also be expected to participate in a weekly on-call rotation, addressing any issues that arise and ensuring that our services remain operational and performant.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliability and performance of services within the Apple Health team.
  • Automate solutions and optimize outcomes focusing on data/backend engineering.
  • Participate in continuous integration and continuous deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with various teams to enhance systems and processes.
  • Address issues during weekly on-call rotations to maintain service operationality.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience in engineering, Cloud, or as a software engineering staff member.
  • Strong programming and scripting fundamentals (Python/Bash).
  • Comfortable with weekly on-call rotation.
  • Experience with modern web services architectures and cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP.
  • Familiarity with source control management tools such as Git and SVN.
  • Linux fundamentals and experience with hardening operating system images.
  • Hands-on experience with log mining frameworks like Splunk, Elastic, Prometheus, and Loki.
  • Experience with container services (Docker/Kubernetes) and UNIX system administration.
  • Knowledge of Grafana or similar tools for investigating or monitoring problems on systems.
  • Experience with release and management of NoSQL, Zookeeper, Spark, and Mesos.
  • In-depth knowledge of build/release systems and processes.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
