About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at Equifax combines software and systems engineering to build and maintain large-scale, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. The SRE team ensures that both internal and external services meet reliability and performance expectations while adhering to Equifax's engineering principles. This position focuses on engineering solutions to operational problems, managing system uptime across cloud-native and hybrid architectures, and fostering a culture of diversity, intellectual curiosity, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Manage system(s) uptime across cloud-native (AWS, GCP) and hybrid architectures.
  • Build infrastructure as code (IAC) patterns that meet security and engineering standards using technologies like Terraform and cloud CLI.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for build, test, and deployment of application and cloud architecture patterns using Jenkins and cloud-native toolchains.
  • Build automated tooling to deploy service requests and push changes into production.
  • Solve problems and triage complex distributed architecture service maps.
  • Create comprehensive runbooks to manage, detect, remediate, and restore services.
  • Lead availability blameless postmortems and own the call to action to remediate recurrences.
  • Be on call for high severity application incidents and improve runbooks to enhance MTTR.
  • Participate in a team of first responders in a 24/7 operating model for incident and problem management.
  • Effectively communicate with technical peers and team members in both written and verbal formats.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding, or equivalent job experience required.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and/or administering software in public cloud environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in programming languages such as Python, Bash, Java, Go, JavaScript, and/or Node.js.
  • 5+ years of experience monitoring infrastructure and application uptime to ensure functional and performance objectives.
  • 5+ years of cross-functional knowledge with systems, storage, networking, security, and databases.
  • 5+ years of system administration skills, including automation and orchestration of Linux/Windows using Terraform, Chef, Ansible, and/or containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • 5+ years of experience working with continuous integration and continuous delivery tooling and practices.

  • Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
  • Experience managing Infrastructure as code via tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Passion for automation with a desire to eliminate toil.
  • Experience in a highly secure, regulated, or compliant industry.
  • Experience and passion for working within a DevOps culture.
