About the position

The WEX Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is seeking an entry-level Site Reliability Engineer Level 1 who is passionate about learning and growing in the field of software development and solutions focused on observability, incident response, reliability and performance, operational excellence, and compliance. This role involves supporting internal stakeholders and Benefits Platform teams, contributing to solving complex challenges, and improving the quality of life for engineering teams and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in training and mentorship programs to gain a deep understanding of SRE principles and practices.
• Support senior SREs in architecting and implementing highly available, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.
• Observe and assist senior SREs during incident response efforts, gaining practical experience in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
• Gain familiarity with automation tools used to streamline operational tasks and improve system reliability.
• Work closely with development teams to understand how software design impacts operational requirements.
• Shadow senior SREs in forecasting capacity needs and implementing strategies for system scalability.
• Develop an understanding of security best practices and how they apply to system design and operation.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends alongside senior team members.

Requirements

• 0-2 years of experience in a technical role (internships and relevant coursework considered)
• Basic understanding of at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go)
• Foundational knowledge of Cloud Computing platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Eagerness to learn and contribute in a team environment
• BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent job experience.
