About the position

The SSHO (Site Safety Health Officer) is responsible for overseeing and maintaining safety programs and policies within marine construction operations. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with safety regulations, promoting a safe work environment, and providing technical support for Health, Safety, and Environmental (HS&E) programs across various locations. The incumbent will engage in safety audits, training, and incident investigations to uphold the company's commitment to safety and integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure field safety programs and policies are in place to promote a safe work environment and compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor and implement Capture Plans, Employee Safety, Accident and Incident Prevention Programs, and Safe Work Practices.
  • Work with the safety management team to establish goals and objectives for the Company's HS&E programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to safety, health, and environmental issues.
  • Conduct internal safety audits at project sites to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Participate in investigations of accidents and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Recommend changes to standard operating procedures and corporate safety policies.
  • Update and distribute the Company's HS&E Policies and Procedures and other publications.
  • Provide administrative and analytical support to the Safety department and maintain the Safety Management System database.
  • Assist with safety inspections and audits as a team member.
  • Analyze safety statistical data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support claims management activities by documenting and gathering information for the Safety and Compliance manager.
  • Monitor and conduct workplace safety orientations and refresher training for employees.
  • Train and instruct project leaders to ensure compliance with safety initiatives.
  • Promote corporate safety initiatives and recognize employee contributions to safety performance.
  • Participate in professional safety organizations and initiatives to enhance compliance and improve programs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of safety and health experience in a marine construction environment.
  • B.S. or A.A.S. Degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety or related discipline preferred.
  • BCSP safety credential (SMS, CSP, ASP, CHST, OHST, STS-C, etc.) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Safety Management, local, state, and federal Safety Regulations, Accident and Incident Prevention, Emergency Response, and Risk Management.
  • Prior experience in the Marine Construction industry preferred.
  • Strong training and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with safety management systems in marine construction.
  • Familiarity with OSHA compliance and safety training programs.
