About the position

The Site Selection Specialist at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) plays a crucial role in the Ohio Stream and Wetland In-Lieu Fee Mitigation Program (OMP). This position focuses on identifying, evaluating, and securing restoration sites across Ohio to enhance conservation outcomes. The specialist will collaborate with various partners, conduct research, and develop restoration plans while ensuring compliance with OMP objectives. This hybrid role allows for remote work with occasional office visits and travel within the state.

Responsibilities

  • Outreach to conservation partners regarding restoration site needs.
  • Research potential restoration sites and evaluate their feasibility.
  • Negotiate and obtain approval for restoration sites.
  • Develop maps illustrating site resources and restoration approaches.
  • Estimate preliminary project budgets and mitigation credits.
  • Coordinate initial site assessments for potential restoration sites.
  • Write preliminary restoration concept plans for identified sites.
  • Maintain databases and records related to restoration projects.
  • Support OMP land protection efforts, including communication with landowners and contractors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years' experience in natural resource management or a similar field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in relationship building with partners such as land trusts and private landowners.
  • Knowledge of wetland and stream ecosystems in Ohio and their ecological processes.
  • Experience in land acquisition principles or similar asset acquisition.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS software for data analysis and map-making.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and meet timelines.
  • Strong communication skills in written, spoken, and graphical formats in English.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license or ability to obtain one.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3-5 years' experience in natural resource management or a similar field.
  • Knowledge of current trends in conservation and land management.
  • Experience using ArcGIS Field Maps and GPS units.
