About the position
The Site Support Technician at OxyChem plays a crucial role in the operations of the Calcium Chloride plant in Ludington, Michigan. This position involves various physical tasks related to the packaging and loading of calcium chloride products, maintaining plant grounds, and supporting safety programs. The technician will work in a team-oriented environment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols while contributing to the overall efficiency of plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Packaging of calcium chloride products and operating a forklift truck.
- Loading calcium chloride products into rail cars and trucks.
- Maintaining and cleaning out rail switches.
- Operating a fire hose and other water type hoses.
- Operating air hammers and other power tools.
- Observing personnel involved in vessel entry.
- Shoveling a variety of materials such as sand, snow, and ditches.
- Performing wheelbarrow work.
- Working in elevated areas and frequent use of portable ladders.
- Maintaining the grounds of the plant site.
- Painting and raking of plant properties.
- Occasionally creating or updating department procedures to ensure accuracy.
- Issuing Safe Work Permits.
- Locking and tagging out equipment.
- Performing other general labor duties as assigned.
- Actively supporting plant and corporate HESS safety programs, objectives, and expectations.
- Following the Ludington Guiding Principles.
- Actively supporting and participating on teams or in programs to continuously improve plant operations.
Requirements
- High School Graduate / GED Required
- Ability to read, write and speak in English
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs, and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and stooping.
