About the position

Peraton is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to support the Special Operation Command Information Technology Enterprise Contract (SITEC) - 3. This position is located at the SOCOM Headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida. The Linux Systems Administrator will be responsible for maintaining the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, which includes coordination with network engineers. The role involves monitoring and managing system resources such as CPU usage, disk usage, and response times to ensure operating efficiency. Additionally, the administrator will perform systems security administration functions, which include creating user profiles and accounts, setting up administrator accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system-wide software, and allocating mass storage space. The Linux Systems Administrator will interact with users and evaluate vendor products, making recommendations for hardware and software purchases, coordinating installations, and providing backup recovery. The position also requires the development and monitoring of policies and standards for the allocation related to the use of computing resources. This role will perform tier two systems support in accordance with the SIE OPORD and requires in-depth technical knowledge of the Government's software and hardware. Advanced analytical, troubleshooting, and design skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical users. Participation in working groups, design reviews, and system tests is required, and the position will help generate assessments and develop actionable recommendations based on reviews. Extensive knowledge of the development process, including specification, documentation, and quality assurance, is necessary to support cross-domain solutions for U.S. Special Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up administrator accounts, maintains system documentation, tunes system performance, installs system-wide software, and allocates mass storage space.
  • Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products, making recommendations to purchase hardware and software.
  • Coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
  • Performs tier two systems support in accordance with the SIE OPORD.
  • Participates in working groups, design reviews, and system tests.
  • Generates assessments and develops actionable recommendations based on reviews.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or IT.
  • 5+ years of experience with systems and network administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with network engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS.
  • Experience with managing virtual machines, software-defined switching, and policy creation using VMware ESXi or vCenter.
  • Knowledge of planning and implementing Layer 2 and 3 network architecture, access controls, and associated policies using multiple vendor components.
  • Knowledge of bi-directional network transfer systems.
  • DoD 8570.1 IAT Level II Compliant Certification.
  • Top Secret Clearance or higher required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with managing systems using Infrastructure as Code technologies, including Salt, Ansible, Puppet, PowerShell, Chef, or Terraform.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Azure.
  • Ability to use tools, including ACAS, Security Center, and Splunk.
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
