The primary purpose of this position is to enable children to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher. The individual in this role will be responsible for following the plans and schedules set by the absent teacher, ensuring that the educational process continues without interruption. This includes teaching the lessons prepared by the absent teacher and reporting on the day's activities at the conclusion of each day. The substitute teacher must adhere to all school and Charter Schools USA (CSUSA) policies, rules, and procedures, which are applicable to regular teachers, and must consult with the building principal or supervisor before initiating any lesson or procedure not specified in the teacher's plans. In terms of student management, the substitute teacher will maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classrooms to which they are assigned. They will oversee pupil behavior in class and at other times during the school day, ensuring that appropriate student behavior is maintained at all times. Building good relations with faculty and staff is also essential, as is treating information about students and staff with the utmost confidentiality. The role may also include performing other duties as assigned by the principal or supervisor, which may vary based on the needs of the school.
