About the position
The Skilled Laborer position at the California Prison Industry Authority (CALPIA) involves providing essential maintenance and repair services within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) facilities. This role supports the agency's mission to reduce recidivism and enhance public safety by offering productive work and training opportunities to incarcerated individuals. The position requires extensive travel and physical labor, reporting primarily to the California State Prison - Corcoran.
Responsibilities
- Perform necessary on-site labor and maintenance service for customers purchasing products manufactured by CALPIA.
- Conduct minor building maintenance and repairs for Healthcare Facilities Maintenance (HFM) within contracted areas.
- Supervise incarcerated individuals during work assignments as needed.
- Maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful situations encountered on the job.
Requirements
- Valid Class C Driver License (CDL).
- Experience in preventative maintenance and repair processes.
- Knowledge in the use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to perform diagnosis, repair, and replacement of furniture components.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with customer service, including scheduling appointments and reviewing complaints.
- Familiarity with maintenance and repair software applications, including Microsoft Suite and work order systems.
