About the position

The Wyoming Boys' School (WBS) is a secure facility dedicated to providing adjudicated delinquent males aged 12-21 with opportunities to transform their lives. The staff at WBS focus on delivering supportive services that emphasize psychological and emotional stability, educational and physical development, and mental health therapies. The programs are specifically designed to help youth learn socially responsible values and life skills, restructure their critical thinking, and prepare for a successful transition back to their families and communities. The Skilled Trades Specialist position is crucial for maintaining and troubleshooting various systems within the facility. This includes HVAC systems, automobiles, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and grounds maintenance issues. The role requires a hands-on approach to ensure that all facility operations run smoothly and efficiently. The specialist will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from performing electrical duties such as replacing light bulbs and repairing switches to locksmith duties that involve both ordinary and high-security locks. Additionally, the position entails preparing bid specifications for repairs and projects, maintaining vehicles and heavy equipment, and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations regarding facility maintenance. The position also involves planning and executing preventive maintenance for all electronic and mechanical systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, and boiler systems. The specialist will assist with landscaping and snow removal, manage water and sewer services, and participate in construction and energy management planning. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and functionality of the facility, contributing to the overall mission of the Wyoming Boys' School.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot facility-wide HVAC systems, automobiles, and equipment.
  • Perform electrical duties including replacing light bulbs, repairing switches, and maintaining emergency generators.
  • Conduct locksmith duties for various types of locks, including high-security systems.
  • Oversee the upkeep of all vehicles, tractors, and heavy equipment.
  • Install, repair, and maintain heating, gas, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
  • Assist with lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Manage water and sewer services for state facilities, including pump stations and irrigation systems.
  • Review engineering plans and specifications for compliance with regulations.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematic drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Plan and perform preventive maintenance for electronic and mechanical systems.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a relevant field.
  • 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Skilled Trades or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, automotive, electrical, and plumbing diagnostics.
  • Ability to operate various heavy equipment.
  • Familiarity with woodworking, metalworking, and masonry equipment.
  • Understanding of federal, state, and local laws related to construction and maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with specialized certificates such as pesticide applicator certification.
  • Additional experience in grounds keeping or HVAC systems.
