About the position

The Skilled Trades Specialist is an integral member of our team at the Wyoming Women's Center in Lusk, WY. This position is responsible for various general trades and preventive maintenance functions throughout a prison facility and property. In addition, this position will be responsible for the repairs and upkeep of the facility in all trade areas and is under the supervision of the Skilled Trades Manager. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, take initiative, have excellent time management and prioritization skills, and have familiarity with security cameras, electronics, and door-locking systems. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including electrical duties such as replacing light bulbs and ballast, repairing or replacing switches, controls, dialers, and other electrical components, troubleshooting and locating problems, maintaining and operating emergency generators, and recommending design parameters for new service. The Skilled Trades Specialist will also perform locksmith duties, from ordinary office door locks to sophisticated electronically operated high-security magnetic locks. In addition to electrical and locksmith duties, the Specialist will be responsible for the upkeep of all vehicles, tractors, utility vehicles, heavy equipment, diesel generators, and other mechanical systems. This includes installing, repairing, and maintaining heating systems, gas systems, refrigeration systems, boiler systems, and air handling units. The role also involves assisting with lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal, as well as managing water and sewer services for state facilities. The Specialist will review engineering plans and specifications related to various systems for compliance with federal and state regulations, conduct inspections, and participate in the construction and energy management planning process. They will also maintain records through the AIM maintenance management software and may work with and escort vendors and contractors to complete various tasks. The position requires the ability to work on-call on a rotating basis, including occasional night and weekend hours, while ensuring adherence to all WDOC policies and procedures. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for electrical duties including replacing light bulbs and ballast, repairing or replacing switches, controls, dialers, and other electrical components.
  • Troubleshoots and locates problems, maintains/operates emergency generators, and recommends design parameters of new service.
  • Performs locksmith duties from ordinary office door locks to extremely sophisticated electronically operated high-security magnetic locks.
  • Accomplishes troubleshooting, repair, remodeling, design, and construction of state facility maintenance; prepares bid specifications and determines cost-effective methods for repairs and projects.
  • Responsible for the upkeep of all vehicles, tractors, utility vehicles, heavy equipment, diesel generators, and other mechanical systems.
  • Installs, repairs, and maintains heating systems, gas systems, refrigeration systems, boiler systems, and air handling units.
  • Assists with lawn care, landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Responsible for the water and sewer service for state facilities, including pump stations and automated fire sprinkler systems.
  • Reviews engineering plans and specifications related to various systems for compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Reads and interprets mechanical, topographical, and electrical schematic drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Conducts inspections at facilities, developing an inspection schedule and timelines to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Participates in the construction/energy management planning process and checks existing facilities/utilities for proposed projects.
  • Maintains, repairs/modifies, and inspects petroleum systems for critical aircraft deployment.
  • Plans, tracks/schedules, and performs preventive maintenance for all ranges and courses including electronic and mechanical targetry systems.
  • Plans, directs, assists, supervises, and inspects the work of skilled and non-skilled inmate workers, including training inmate work crews.
  • Maintains records through the AIM maintenance management software.
  • May work with and escort vendors and contractors to complete various tasks and assignments.
  • Be able to work on-call on a rotating basis to include occasional night and weekend hours.
  • Ensures adherence to all WDOC policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 0-2 years of progressive work experience in Skilled Trades, or 2-4 years of experience with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Laborer.
  • Knowledge of general construction and remodeling, including applicable building codes and regulations.
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostics and general plumbing repair and installation.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems maintenance, including small to medium vehicle repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of power woodworking, metalworking, and masonry equipment.
  • Knowledge of concrete masonry units and bricks, asphalt, and concrete repair.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in relation to construction operations and vehicle maintenance.
  • Knowledge of security camera systems and electronics, and door locking systems.
