About the position

The Ground Software Engineer I position at Blue Origin is focused on developing, testing, and integrating software for the Lunar Permanence Mission Operations Centers, which are essential for flying lunar space vehicles. This role is integral to the Lunar Transportation business unit, contributing to the mission of enabling sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the lunar surface. The engineer will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the success of mission-critical software systems that support safe and repeatable space flight operations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, verify and deploy mission operations, safety-critical software systems.
  • Perform trade studies to determine the best approach for software tool development.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define software requirements and designs.
  • Develop rapid prototypes to validate concepts and assess technical risks.
  • Coordinate with mission control and system engineers for software verification and qualification.
  • Produce documentation for software architecture, design, and user manuals.
  • Follow software development processes to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Support update cycles for pre-flight testing and mission validation exercises.
  • Maintain mission control software operations during training and integration activities.
  • Integrate software components and validate using simulators.

Requirements

  • B.S. or higher degree in Software or Engineering related field.
  • 0+ years of software development experience.
  • Proven software development in C++14 or later.
  • Familiarity with Linux environment.
  • Passion for spaceflight and space exploration.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with full lifecycle software engineering.
  • Proven software development in Python.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and cloud technologies.
