About the position

The SLD Lead Fluids and Propulsion Systems Engineer at Blue Origin is responsible for overseeing the design, analysis, testing, and integration of fluids and propulsion subsystems for lunar landers. This role is crucial in supporting Blue Origin's mission to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon, contributing to the development of the MK2 Crew Lander and ensuring its capabilities align with NASA's Artemis program. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to safety and quality in human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • End-to-End ownership of the Fluids and Propulsion design and verification requirements
  • Integrate between fluids propulsion subsystem and overall system level vehicle design, analysis, software, operations
  • Understand and manage key Technical Performance Metrics for the system
  • Support the development and execution of component and subsystem tests
  • Coordination of plans for verification and validation
  • Spearhead the organization and preparation efforts for gate reviews
  • Ensure timely updates and communication of system level architecture diagrams and schematics
  • Creatively guide the team to balance the objectives of high velocity development program while meeting the intent of standard system engineering processes
  • Tackle the diverse range fluids propulsion design engineer tasks like leading trade studies, component design/integration, 1st order analysis, test support and supplier interface as the opportunity arise
  • Mentor and educate junior Blue Origin employees on systems engineering processes and methods
  • Lead a team of 5-10 Systems Engineers
  • Work inter-dependently with other project members to drive progress at the program level

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar
  • 8+ years of experience in fluids design, space propulsion, cryogenic systems, systems engineering or other relevant experience
  • Experience working on rapid development teams
  • Proven understanding and passion for Systems Engineering principles and practices such as requirements definition, requirements traceability, functional decomposition, verification and validation, creating and managing interface control document (ICD), configuration management, and systems engineering management plan (SEMP)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with requirements development/management tools such as JAMA
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • 10+ years of experience in fluids design/space propulsion/cryogenic systems experience or a relevant experience
  • Experience with systems engineering modeling tools, such as Rhapsody or Cameo
  • Experience with owning entry/exit criteria of NASA technical review
  • Experience with aerospace components
  • Experience with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM
  • Experience with certification of human-rated space systems
