About the position

The Sr Thermal Hardware Design Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the development of spacecraft thermal control systems as part of the Lunar Permanence initiative. This position involves working closely with NASA and other partners to ensure safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the design and testing of thermal components for lunar landers. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of thermal hardware, from conception through testing and integration, while fostering a culture of safety and collaboration within a diverse team.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop spacecraft thermal control systems for lunar landers.
  • Contribute to the design and testing of thermal components from conception to integration.
  • Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) program.
  • Develop component specifications, test plans, and execution reports.
  • Conduct thermal analysis and make/buy decisions for thermal hardware.
  • Work closely with the Thermal Analysis group to ensure integrated product development.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals and spacecraft thermal hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and testing hardware.
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes.
  • Ability to maintain positive professional relationships and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 12 years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware and semi-passive devices.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems.
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
