About the position

The Sr Thermal Hardware Design Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the development of spacecraft thermal control systems as part of the Lunar Permanence initiative. This position involves working closely with NASA and other partners to ensure safe and repeatable space flight, contributing to the design and testing of thermal components for lunar landers. The engineer will be responsible for overseeing the thermal hardware from conception through testing and integration, requiring a strong commitment to quality and safety in the context of human spaceflight.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the definition and development of spacecraft thermal control systems.
  • Develop thermal components from conception through testing and integration with the vehicle.
  • Work directly with NASA and National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) program.
  • Collaborate with the Thermal Hardware group and Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal integrated product team.
  • Create component specifications, test plans, and execute testing and reporting.
  • Make informed decisions regarding make/buy options for thermal components.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with common spacecraft thermal hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience building and testing hardware.
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes.
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 12 years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware and semi-passive devices.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems.
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
