About the position

The Sr Thermal Hardware Design Engineer at Blue Origin will play a crucial role in the development of spacecraft thermal control systems, specifically for lunar landers as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. This position requires a commitment to safety and collaboration, contributing to innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment. The engineer will be responsible for thermal components from conception through testing and integration, working closely with NASA and other partners to ensure the success of lunar missions.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop spacecraft thermal control systems for lunar landers.
  • Contribute to the design and testing of thermal components from conception to integration.
  • Collaborate with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System program.
  • Develop component specifications, test plans, and execution reports.
  • Conduct occasional thermal analysis and make/buy decisions for thermal hardware.
  • Work closely with the Thermal Analysis group within the Lunar Thermal integrated product team.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 8 years of relevant Thermal Engineering experience.
  • Solid understanding of thermal fundamentals and spacecraft thermal hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and testing hardware.
  • Understanding of aerospace hardware verification and validation processes.
  • Ability to maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. or PhD degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 12 years of relevant aerospace experience.
  • Solid understanding of pumped fluid loop hardware and semi-passive devices.
  • Experience solving a variety of thermal problems.
  • Vendor technical management experience.
  • Familiarity with Thermal Desktop and Sinda/Fluint.
